On Christmas Eve, in the evening, the resort's staff ski down the Telluride Trail with torches, straight into the center of town. It is the one event everyone in the house should be outside for. On New Year's Eve the fireworks go off over Mountain Village in the early evening, watched from Heritage Plaza near the base of Lift 4, and the town counts down on Colorado Avenue at midnight. Dates and times shift a little each year, so check the town calendar once your week is set.

Town or Mountain Village

Town is the historic grid, walkable to everything, with older kitchens. Mountain Village is ski-in, a gondola ride away, with the bigger houses and the newer kitchens. Families with small kids and a lot of gear usually pick Mountain Village. Families who want the torchlight parade at their doorstep pick town.
