Catering in Moab, Utah·A Local Lens

Moab Catering
for the adventure-tourism capital of the red-rock West

Moab is overwhelmingly an adventure-tourism market — the gateway to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, the global capital of Slickrock mountain biking, and the host city of the world's largest off-road event (the Easter Jeep Safari). The resident base is small, but the luxury layer is dense and concentrated in red-rock-vista vacation properties along the Colorado River corridor and in Castle Valley, plus a smaller group of UHNW homeowners drawn by the geography. Peak demand runs March-May and September-November when the desert weather is ideal; summer is hot and quieter; winter is mild but tourism-light.

MileHighCook caters across Castle Valley (the most distinctive luxury-vacation-home corridor in Moab), the Colorado River corridor (with the Sorrel River Ranch anchor), the Spanish Valley, and the Pack Creek and Mill Creek properties. The local catering market is tiny — two or three operators serve the entire region, and most luxury vacation rental hosting still defaults to take-out or self-catering. Vacation-rental kitchen variability is the most extreme in our footprint: some properties have professional-grade kitchens, others have basic residential setups, and we plan around the actual property rather than discover it on-site. Restaurant-Level Catering,
Red-Rock & Vacation Rental

MileHighCook's Moab catering covers every detail — from custom menu design and locavore-rooted Castle Valley sourcing through full kitchen execution at vacation rental properties, Sorrel River Ranch venue spaces, or private red-rock-vista estates, professional service staff, equipment rentals where the property's setup falls short, and complete post-event cleanup. Sourcing is the most logistically demanding in our footprint — Moab is four hours from Salt Lake City and two hours from Grand Junction, so specialty ingredient lead times shape the proposal calendar from the first conversation.

Whether you're hosting a 120-guest destination wedding at Sorrel River Ranch, a 60-guest Easter Jeep Safari week corporate hospitality dinner along the Colorado River corridor, a 40-guest Moab Music Festival patron dinner in a red-rock outdoor setting, a 24-guest multi-day family vacation rental residency in Castle Valley, or a 30-guest adventure-tourism brand activation, our All-Inclusive approach means one transparent quote with no hidden add-ons. We work in private vacation rental properties, Sorrel River Ranch (the regional luxury anchor), Red Cliffs Lodge, and ranch and estate properties throughout the Castle Valley and Colorado River corridors.

Sorrel River Wedding, Easter Jeep & Red-Rock Residency

01

Sorrel River Ranch & Red-Rock Wedding

50-150 guest destination weddings at Sorrel River Ranch (the dominant premium event venue in the region), Red Cliffs Lodge, and red-rock-vista private properties. Per-event spend often $200-$600/pp — the volume is smaller than mountain markets but the per-event ambition is high. Strong March-May and September-November peaks.

Up to 150 Guests
02

Easter Jeep Safari Corporate

Easter week (9 days) corporate hospitality and brand activation hosting tied to the largest off-road event in the world. Automotive and outdoor-industry brands run substantial private hosting calendars during the Safari — private dinners, brand activation receptions, and dealer/distributor-network hospitality at Sorrel River and along the Colorado River corridor.

Easter Week
03

Vacation Rental Residency

Multi-day chef residencies inside red-rock-vista vacation rentals in Castle Valley and the Colorado River corridor — the under-supplied core of Moab catering. Adventure-tourism multi-generational families, brand-activation crews, and Music Festival patron groups drive multi-day demand. We plan around the actual property kitchen rather than discover its limits day-of.

Every Menu, Custom-Built From Scratch

These are starting points, not packages. Most caterers and private chefs lock you into a small set of pre-built menus. We don't. Every MileHighCook menu is designed around your guests, your venue, your season, and your story. The dishes below are inspirations — what we might build for you.

Wagyu New York
Mountain Steakhouse, Elevated

Wagyu New York

Dry-aged Wagyu, charred allium purée, smoked bone marrow jus, root-vegetable hash. Could be reimagined with seasonal Colorado lamb or 14-day dry-aged ribeye.

Hokkaido Scallop Crudo
Coastal · Light · Refined

Hokkaido Scallop Crudo

Day-flown scallop, yuzu-kosho, finger lime, shiso oil. As one example of what's possible with sushi-grade fish flown in for a private dinner.

Black Truffle Risotto
Italian · Indulgent · Seasonal

Black Truffle Risotto

Carnaroli rice, aged Parmigiano, fresh black truffle shaved tableside (when in season). One direction for an Italian-inspired evening.

Whole-Roasted Cauliflower
Plant-Forward · Vibrant · Seasonal

Whole-Roasted Cauliflower

Heirloom cauliflower, brown butter dukkah, herbed labneh, charred lemon. A vegan-capable centerpiece that holds its own at any table.

Crispy-skin duck, cherry gastrique, parsnip purée, pickled mustard seed. As a starting point for a plated multi-course winter dinner.

Royal Ossetra, traditional accoutrements, blini, crème fraîche. One of countless ways we can elevate a cocktail hour or welcome reception.

The MileHighCook Difference

Moab Catering, Done by the Chef

While most marketplaces, resort F&B teams, and volume operators rely on coordinators or printed banquet sheets, every MileHighCook event is built around three principles.

One Chef,
Not a Coordinator

Chef Steve plans and runs every event personally. No sales coordinator. No sub-contractor. The person you talk to on day one is the person on-site the night of.

Your Menu,
Not Their Banquet Sheet

Every menu built from scratch around your guests, your venue, your season. No package tiers. No printed banquet kit. No “pick three from column A.” Yours, not ours.

Easter Jeep Safari week (Easter week, 9 days) is the highest-demand corporate hospitality window of the Moab year — automotive and outdoor-industry brands begin reserving Sorrel River and Castle Valley properties in October-November of the prior year. Sorrel River Ranch destination weddings typically book 12-18 months out for the most desired Saturday dates in March-May and September-November. The Moab Music Festival (early September) and Moab Folk Festival (November) patron hosting books 4-6 months ahead. Multi-week family vacation residencies typically lock 4-9 months out depending on the rental property's calendar.
Yes — Sorrel River Ranch is the dominant premium event venue in the region and a defined Moab category for our work. Red Cliffs Lodge and private river-adjacent properties along the Colorado River corridor are recurring venues. Castle Valley vacation rentals are the most distinctive luxury-vacation-home corridor in Moab and are the most common venue type for our multi-day residency work. Each rental's kitchen is different — we walk the property layout in advance and plan around it rather than improvise on-site.
Our All-Inclusive proposal covers chef and culinary team, all ingredients (sourced through SLC and Grand Junction supply chains, plus regional Castle Valley and Spanish Valley producers when seasonal), prep, cooking, plating, professional service staff, equipment and rental needs for vacation rental kitchens that aren't catering-spec, travel from outside the region, and complete post-event cleanup. Moab's distance-driven sourcing logistics are folded into one transparent number rather than billed as surcharges.
Sourcing is the most logistically demanding in our footprint. Moab is four hours from Salt Lake City and two hours from Grand Junction, so specialty proteins, sushi-grade seafood, premium imports, and out-of-region produce all require advance ordering with appropriate lead time. The flip side is the locavore layer is genuinely strong — Castle Valley produce, regional Utah and western Colorado producers, and Spanish Valley agricultural sources support a meaningful share of the menu. We design proposal timelines around the sourcing rather than the other way around.
Yes. Plant-forward and locavore-curious are the most common categories here (the adventure-tourism client base skews this way), plus performance-aligned for the cycling, climbing, and off-roading visitor cohorts at the upper end. Gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, vegan, anti-inflammatory, Mediterranean, and complex layered restrictions are all standard. Multi-generational vacation rental hosting often involves extensive guest dietary lists across generations, and we route those through the questionnaire phase.
Yes — this is one of the largest pieces of our Moab scope. The vacation-rental-residency segment is the under-supplied core of Moab catering: adventure-tourism families on 5-10 day stays, brand-activation crews running week-long hospitality, and Music Festival patron groups all drive multi-day demand. Residencies typically cover three meals daily with menu variety calibrated to a long stay (the take-out fatigue is real after day three), guest-dietary coverage across generations, and locavore programming where seasonal.
Yes — Moab Music Festival (early September) is a distinctive classical music festival held in red-rock outdoor settings, and the patron audience is sophisticated. Donor cultivation dinners, post-performance receptions, and festival-week multi-day patron programming are all defined categories. Moab Folk Festival (November) drives a smaller patron circuit. Both festivals book 4-6 months ahead for tied private hosting.
Yes — confidentiality clauses and NDAs are standard for our Moab work. Brand-activation hosting during Easter Jeep Safari week, automotive and outdoor-industry corporate hospitality, multi-generational UHNW family vacation residencies, and high-discretion family-office hosting all routinely involve discretion requirements. Tell us your standards and we'll execute accordingly.
We serve Castle Valley, the Colorado River corridor, the Spanish Valley, Pack Creek, Mill Creek, the Sorrel River Ranch corridor, and the Moab town historic district. Travel from SLC and Grand Junction supply chains is built into the All-Inclusive proposal — you won't see Moab-distance surcharges added separately. Vacation rental properties at the further edges of Castle Valley and along the upper Colorado River corridor are routine rather than extra.
Reschedules are handled case-by-case. Generally: 90+ days out, full deposit transfers to the new date with no penalty. 30-90 days, partial transfer with a re-stocking adjustment. Less than 30 days, the available remedy depends on the date, the SLC/Grand Junction sourcing already in motion (Moab's lead times are longer than markets with closer distribution, which factors in), and team scheduling. Easter Jeep Safari week and peak-season wedding reschedules are particularly tight — we'll always be transparent about what's possible.
